Monthly client reporting for a performance marketing agency
A digital agency managing 18 clients was spending 45 staff hours per month manually pulling GA4 and Google Ads data, writing performance summaries, and emailing PDF reports. The process was largely mechanical, error-prone, and meant a team member spent most of their first week each month on reporting rather than billable work.
We built an n8n workflow that runs automatically on the 1st of each month. It loops through all 18 client accounts sequentially, fetches last month’s data from the Google Analytics 4 API and Google Ads API, generates a 3-paragraph AI-written executive summary via OpenAI, renders a branded PDF via Gotenberg, and emails each report to the relevant client contact — all without any manual involvement.
Error handling was built in from the start: if any single client’s report fails, the workflow logs the failure, sends a Slack alert, and continues to the next client. A master Google Sheet tracks every report sent, every failure, and every client’s last report date.
